Abbey Village is a community with housing for persons 55 years of age or older located in the Villages of Oriole in Delray Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida, situated inland about 6 miles from a "downtown" just west of the Intercoastal and about 6.5 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and the beachside area along Highway A1A.
Abbey has 29 condominiums and a clubhouse with a total of 528 units set on 39 acres. The buildings were built in 3 phases, beginning in 1978 and finishing in early 1980's. Four of the condominium buildings are 4 level high rises with elevators and the remainder are 2 story without elevators. Most of the units are 2 bedroom/2 bathroom, living room/dining room with an adjoining "Florida" room or open terrace, and kitchen/kitchenettes with an adjacent area for a small table with chairs.
Abbey hosts many of its' own activities throughout the year in our beautiful clubhouse, which features a large auditorium for meetings, shows and entertainment, two pools, an exercise room, card rooms, a billiards room, a small library of books contributed by members, shuffleboard courts and more. Barbecue facilities are available.
The Villages of Oriole consist of 8 separate homeowner sections each with independent governance totaling 3,742 condos, town-houses and villas, as well as a shopping area in walking distance all within a 1 square mile area. These sections surround a 107 acre area (originally an open-to-the-public recreation area/golf course with restaurant) that was sold to a developer with plans for its' conversion to a new housing development, Avalon Trails, consisting of 521 age-restricted homes, approved by Palm Beach County Commission during August 2017.
There's a Trolley that makes rounds throughout the Villages a few days a week to some of the local shopping areas (see schedule) for those without their own transportation, as well a regular daily public bus route that travels along S. Oriole Blvd.
Go east on Atlantic Avenue toward the ocean, and you find the haute "downtown Delray," with top trendy restaurants and the finest shopping with artisan stores and specialty merchants galore. The city, with about a dozen art galleries, holds festivals and events all year long and has been voted an All-American City, this year for the third time. This "Village-by-the-Sea" is also renown for it's top-notch championship tennis facility, with the Delray Beach Open, a men's professional event being held in February.
I-95 and the Florida Turnpike (a toll-highway) are within just a few miles and the Villages are close to major hospitals and other medical service facilities. The nearby Delray Medical Center has been named one of the best 50 hospitals in the country for the last 10 years by Healthgrades and is a Level 1 Trauma Center.
